brand new set of strings

I drove home this morning after two weeks of Christmas vacation. I’ll admit: I was tired of being on vacation. Not that I don’t love being at home -- but it was time to stop being a bum.

I had a lot of optimism pumping through my veins as I pulled out of my parent’s driveway early this morning -- especially when you consider the four hours of sleep I had gotten the night before and the shower I hadn’t taken. Usually a tired-and-dirty Emma makes for a rotten car ride.

Today’s drive was a good one though. The highway was empty and the sky was blue. I like driving by myself because it gives me a chance to think. I’m excited for the New Year and grateful for the opportunity to wipe my slate clean. I like a new start.

I caught myself cruising down the highway at an Interstate speed. Oops. I'll blame my absentminded rocket speed on this song. (Don’t whine. Some of you hipcats hate country music -- I know.) It popped into my head yesterday and I had to get it out of my system.

I’ll grab the wheel and point it west
Pack the good and leave the rest
I’ll drive until I find the missing piece
You said I wouldn’t get too far
On a tank of gas and an empty heart
But I have everything I’ll ever need
I got this old guitar and a brand new set of strings...

Such a great message -- and such a good fit for today.

Everyone should pack the good and leave the rest.
And find a brand new set of strings to inspire them.

2010: You're gonna be a great year.

That is a good message. It's good to remember what's really important in our lives.

I also wanted to say that I usually like driving by myself for the same reason but for some reason within the past few years I've developed a habit of falling asleep if I drive long distances (not good -obviously). Hopefully I get over that but for now Rikky drives on the long trips :)
