Every girl needs a few good role models.
I'm grateful for the female characters in literature that showed me
that being smart is so much better than being beautiful --
and that girls with courage always end up
being the heroine of their own story.
Here are some of my favorite female protagonists:

Anne Shirley

Claudia Kincaid

Elizabeth Bennet

Hermione Granger

Agreed!
I read an article recently saying Hermione was the role model many young women had been needing (versus Disney princesses, which, bless my childhood, aren't very strong women).
I liked the article, but I did think Nancy Drew had beaten her to the punch. Great minds think alike.
every time you talk of hermione granger like this, i kick myself for not having read the books yet!!
You make me happy, Emma! Well said. Although I don't know who Claudia Kincaid is. I'll look her up.
